Sometimes you have to be locked up to find true freedom. David Mike swore allegiance to his country in 1987, only to be dishonorably discharged for desertion. One bad choice after another landed him at Fort Leavenworth, a notorious military prison in Kansas, where he starts a new life as an inmate. Follow his journey as he claws his way toward Christ and away from the past that yearns to destroy him. Dishonor One Soldier’s Journey from Desertion to Redemption is a vulnerable and compelling look at a life gone wrong. With stark honesty, David gives insights into prison life and the shame that comes with living a dishonorable life. Through his raw, gritty, personal account, he pleads for you to find the same redemption he found in his life.

A genuine story of redemption. David takes you through his journey into drugs, deserting the army, and ultimately being imprisoned at Fort Leavenworth. But the story doesn't stop there. David finds Jesus and no longer does David's past define him. You will not regret reading this and might just want to share it with someone who needs hope for their future. This book is close to my heart not only because redemption is life but because David’s story mirrors my father’s in some key ways…They both made some pretty horrible choices, spent time in prison, found God there.
A convicted murderer at the age of 17 my father spent 10 years in prison. I remember the blue prison ink tattoo that spelled SATAN on his arm. If there was ever a case for someone who was beyond redemption it was my father.
But God…
But God had a different plan. My dad was introduced to his Abba Father and Jesus did a work in his heart and redeemed his past. I will always believe in the power of Christ to intervene and redeem, not only because it is baked into my bones but because I am the product of someone who was given a new life in Christ.

Dishonor One Soldier Journey from Desertion to Redemption David Mike Deb Lee Toth 9780692759202 Books Reviews
This book was even more than I had hoped it would be! It was so raw filled with so much emotion and I could totally relate to a lot of what the author was going through. Although my struggles have been different, I think we all suffer pain, depression, despair, disappointment in ourselves and the hi's and lows in our lives very much the same. I think any reader could relate to this book in so many ways. This book really put into perspective for me just how powerful our God is and that through him anything is possible. Life will be difficult and so many times we turn to outside sources to make us happy when all we need is God. His love is everything and the Author shows that so many times throughout this book. I would highly recommend this book not just to those who have struggled but to everyone; it's very touching and really makes you take a step back and realize how God really is the core to living.
Get this book. And then give it as a gift to people on your heart to hear this story.
I had heard about the surface of David Mike's story and was intrigued. I only have come to know him through an online group of encouragers in life and goals. As I dove into his story I was struck that a simple request by a friend at a club to take a pill led to so much later, landing Mike in Fort Levenworth, a military prison. What becomes beautiful is how David uncovers grace, redemption and forgiveness lifted up by family and a few strangers placed in his path. Ultimately, it is God's story and David is sharing it with us. This book is now permanently on my "books to give as gifts" list.
I have known David since High School. This book really offers a rare glimps inside the insidious world of drugs and the Detention Barracks subculture of Ft Levenworth. However, the best part of this book is the hope it gives those, who like David, have made some bad choices and are trying to get back on track. The love David's dad (a man I have admired for 30 years) showed him throughout his ordeal will make you cry, and in the end, David reminds us that there is always hope in Christ.
David Mike's journey is one of hope. He writes in such a way that I felt like I was there with him. I'm glad that David shares his story and hope that it will inspire hope in you as it has in me.
I really enjoyed David's book. It was easy to read and he did a great job describing military things so a civilian like me could understand.
I've never been in the military or been in a physical prison but still, I related to David's story. I lived in an emotional prison for a long time. What brought him freedom is what brought me freedom. These things can bring you freedom too. The power of other people praying for you, the empowerment of knowing you matter and the joyous elation found in knowing the gracious unending love of God.
A favorite quote of mine is what he says about God in the final chapter "I could never run far enough, dig a hole deep enough, or screw up bad enough to hide from His love."
Thank you for sharing your story David!
This story is like no other. It is one that will stick with you long after you read it. The author takes you every step of the way through his unbelievable journey. I highly recommend this book.
This is a story that everyone needs to read, not just because it is full of intrigue and legal drama, but because of the real story of forgiveness and redemption. No one is ineligible, even from the depths that your life may have gone too. For those not in so deep, the truth is still important, that no one is beyond God's love. Even when we struggle to forgive, or to have hope that someone's life can be changed, God knows them and loves them. That was the reminder that I needed today.
