This is now my go-to book for baby showers. I think any little boy or girl would enjoy having Hilda as a role model! She's plucky, clever, and compassionate. She can be overdramatic but has a good heart at the end of the day. As most people can relate to, she is far from perfect but learns from her mistakes and has an undeniable optimism when presented with a problem.

Full disclosure - I am an adult with no kids. My husband and I love reading and re-reading this book though! Luke Pearson has a unique voice and has created a fun and quirky world for both kids and adults. The art is very detailed and rewards re-reading. Check out this book and if you like it, Pearson has written two more in the series for you to enjoy.

My 5-year-old loves this book, and I think it's perfect for a My First Graphic Novel for her, but why would the author include a swear word? I know it's meant for slightly older readers, but it seems to short to be for that age range. I just drew a line through it and wrote "Darn" above it. Otherwise, it's too cute, and a big hit around here.
A wonderful story, with fun art. Hilda lives with her mom in a house in the woods, and those woods are full of folk magic and strange creatures. Very enjoyable.
I love to read this with my daughter.

A short and cute adventure of a girl who vigorously draws rocks, runs from rock trolls and camp in the rain for fun. Imaginative, yet somewhat short. Don't pay to much for the book. ;)

Our whole family loves this sweet, weird book. A lot more than I'm used to paying for comics (of which we have a lot, mostly indie) but worth it for the sturdier binding and gentle, accessible story.
